Victoria Kiechel

Senior Associate

A registered architect with more than 25 years of professional experience in architecture, education, and sustainable design, Vicky has worked at Cadmus since 2008 on a multidisciplinary array of projects. She leads both hands-on and research-oriented work to improve the sustainability and resource efficiency of buildings, cities, and systems. Vicky has managed ENERGY STAR® Commercial & Industrial Branch Task Orders, including the task order supporting the development of the ENERGY STAR® for Tenant Space program, and has also led Cadmus’ work in green tourism, supporting TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel website, in their GreenLeaders program as well as the State of Wisconsin’s Travel Green Wisconsin initiative.

A LEED® Accredited Professional in five AP specialty tracks (BD+C, ID+C, O+M, ND, and Homes), Vicky leads design, consulting, and review teams for projects seeking LEED and other green building certifications. As an ENERGY STAR® Licensed Professional, she has conducted reviews and verifications of multiple U.S. Department of State properties. Vicky supported the U.S. Green Building Council in the development of LEED 2009 and led the development of the Smithsonian Institution’s sustainability initiatives between 2009 and 2012. She has been principal author of studies for such diverse clients as the Appalachian Regional Commission, the National Fenestration Rating Council, Arlington County, Virginia, and the Electric Power Research Institute. She helped develop, and then deliver, multidisciplinary training for State of Arkansas energy managers.

Vicky is a faculty member in the Global Environmental Politics Program of American University’s School of International Service and was the inaugural recipient of the Most Innovative Green Teacher of the Year Award. Her self-authored courses include Climate Resilient Cities, Globalizing Social Activism, Sustainable Urban Development, Global Cities, and the Local-scale Design Practicum. A Rhodes Scholar, she holds an M.Phil. from Oxford University and an M.Arch from Harvard University. She is registered as an architect in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the District of Columbia.
