Cadmus Wins U.S. Department of Energy American-Made Digitizing Utilities Prize
ARLINGTON, Va., May 17, 2023—Cadmus, a leading provider of technical and strategic expertise to governments, energy utilities, and private sector companies worldwide, announced it has been awarded the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Electricity’s inaugural American-Made Digitizing Utilities Prize. Cadmus was selected as one of nine Phase 1 winners. The award recognizes the firm’s expertise in helping utility clients address and solve current challenges in the energy sector.
The American-Made Digitizing Utilities prize recognizes organizations working with utilities to address energy management storage, identify how they can make better capacity predictions, and prepare for significant climate change using data and analytics.
For the competition, Cadmus was tasked with developing a solution to address several energy and climate challenges faced by Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), including the need for better load modeling to help correctly forecast future power demands and address the dynamic nature of weather-sensitive loads for residential and commercial buildings. The team proposed the use of several novel data analytics models combined with a distributed computing platform to provide more accurate load estimates, as outlined in a technical paper and video submission.
The Cadmus team consisted of interdisciplinary experts from service areas across the firm to develop its innovative solutions. The award-winning project was led by Vice President of Analytics and Data Science Jim Sprague and Director of Business Development Vince Bonifera, with support from team members Matthew Baranoff, Shreekar Pradhan, Ben Resek, Celeste Smith, and Chad Laurent. Cadmus is advancing in the DOE competition and will work with BPA to implement the firm’s proposed solution.
“It’s an honor for our interdisciplinary Cadmus team to be recognized by DOE for developing an innovative and solutions-oriented approach to address energy management and climate change,” said Nathan Smith, leader of the firm’s U.S. Public Sector Division. “This project is an excellent example of how Cadmus uses design and analytics to help our clients remain resilient to the changing energy market and the effects of our changing climate.”
