New Research Details First-Ever Economic Value Estimates of the “U.S. Drought Monitor”
January 6, 2021- A new article by Cadmus principal Richard Krop, Ph.D., published in the January 2021 issue of the journal Water, yields economic information that can be used to estimate the societal benefits of the U.S. Drought Monitor online tool and help policymakers evaluate the Monitor in different sectors.
“Valuation of Drought Information: Understanding the Value of the U.S. Drought Monitor in Land Management” presents the results of an NOAA-funded study Cadmus conducted with the University of Nebraska’s National Drought Mitigation Center. Krop conducted the study as part of a team that included co-authors Tingting Liu, Tonya Haigh, Kelly Helm Smith, and Mark Svoboda of the University of Nebraska. The study included interviews with people that use the Monitor and a survey of public health officials and staff at the Bureau of Land Management.
